Jackson Update 15

Jackson's oxygen tube came out last night and he is now breathing on his own and maintaining healthy oxygen levels in his blood. This means that the surgery was successful and achieved exactly what we were wanting: that his heart can oxygenate his blood by routing it to the lungs and back to the body.

The infection seems to be getting better which is also a very good sign. The doctors plan to keep him on antibiotics for maybe another week. If that completely clears up the infection, they may start to talk about discharging him from the hospital. It will be a great day when he gets home.

JR. Let me start off by saying Congratulations to you and your family. What an exciting and blessed time. Unfortunately, it has also become very tiring and stressful.

I can relate to the experience you and your family are going through. My son was at Vanderbilt just over two weeks and we were also suprised with the problems he had after birth. Our doctors never saw his problems in the ultrasound.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You should find comfort in knowing you are at the best hospital for children. I can not thank Vanderbilt enough for the care my son received over the last year.

Sounds like you are in the home stretch now that you have been moved out of the NICU. They only kept us a few days after he had his own room. Hopefully, you won't have to wait very long before taking him home.

One thing that I've learned from Nathaniel is that he has bounced back from all of his surgeries and procedures much better than we have. I'm sure your little baby will as well. Looking at Nathaniel now, you would never know all that he has gone through unless you see the small scars.

You'll be amazed how quickly they change within a year. Take lots of pictures and video.

God be with you and your family.
